The Queensland Government has awarded CPB Contractors (a CIMIC Group company) a multi-million-dollar contract to deliver major upgrades to the Bruce Highway.

The Cooroy to Curra Section D: Woondum to Curra (C2CD) – Contract 2 is a construction-only contract that will generate $289 million for the winning contractor.

The C2CD project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments and is seen as a priority road project as part of the national highway network.

The works include 18-kilometres of new highway, 19 bridges and a new interchange at Curra, plus realignments to local roads. The project will provide a bypass east of Gympie to improve safety and reduce congestion.

The Bruce Highway Upgrade

This major contract is a part of the $1 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade that includes delivering 26-kilometre, a 4-lane divided highway running from the existing Bruce Highway interchange at Woondum to Curra.

The project will be delivered in two contracts, the first of which already began in October 2020. The first contract was awarded to Bielby Holdings and BMD.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said of the project: “CIMIC Group is pleased to be selected to deliver this important project through CPB Contractors. We look forward to working with communities in the Sandy Creek Road to Curra area and supporting the achievement of greater safety outcomes for road users based on our experience in regional projects in Queensland.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears also commented on the project win.

“CPB Contractors successfully completed Section C of the Cooroy to Curra upgrade and will apply that local knowledge to delivering this section safely and with the least disruption possible. We are also committed to engaging with local workers and businesses to facilitate skills development, work opportunities and other community benefits.”

Work will commence on this project in late-2021 and is scheduled for completion in mid-2024.
