Latest stage of Kwinana Freeway Widening Project, awarded to Brierty, worth $13.5 million.
Last week, it was announced Brierty had been awarded the newest stage of the Kwinana Freeway Widening Project. A joint project between the Australian and Western Australian Governments, the newest stage will see a third lane added to the southbound section of the freeway between Armadale Road and Russell Road, stretching 3.5 kilometres.
Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jamie Briggs says “We are wasting no time delivering the world class infrastructure Perth needs with construction due to begin in September and project completion by mid-2016,” He also states why this upgrade is important, “More than 52,000 vehicles use this section of the freeway each day and this figure is expected to rise to 75,000 vehicles by 2021".
The overall project is expected to deliver, reduced congestion and delays for southbound traffic, improved traffic flow and increased efficiency through higher average speeds. It will also introduce improved infrastructure that will increase safety and should result in a reduced crash frequency.
$61.9 million of the $77.5 million overall project will be contributed by the Australian Government.
This contract follows on from the completion of the Roe Highway to Armadale Road section which was finished four months ahead of schedule.
