Contract Awarded for the Plenty Highway Upgrade

Plenty Highway Upgrade

The $7.88 million Plenty Highway will soon start work upgrading a 5.5km section of the highway located in the Harts Range area about 2 15 km north east of Alice Springs.

The Plenty Highway upgrade project is jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments.


The contract for the upgrade has been awarded to Northern Territory based company Ostojic Group, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester confirmed.

Mr Chester also stated that he believes work will begin very quickly now that the contract has been awarded.

Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory Nigel Scullion identified the benefit the Plenty Highway upgrade would have for the region,

“The upgrade is going to help improve productivity for a variety of industries, including the mining and freight transport sectors, regional tourism, and the cattle industry which will have better market access.”

Not only does the Plenty Highway upgrade give a boost to local industry but it provides a much needed improvement to the roads safety and reliability.

Northern Territory Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Nicole Mansion spoke about them impact the upgrade will have on the community,

“In addition to the efficiency gains for local businesses, a better road means the upgrade is going to help improve productivity for a variety of industries, including the mining and freight transport sectors, regional tourism, and the cattle industry which will have better market access.”
