The $40 million engineering, procurement and construction contract has been awarded to Sedgman, part of the CIMIC Group, by New Century Resources

The contract Sedgman has been awarded covers the refurbishment and commissioning of the Century processing plant and Karumba Port Facility. This follows the completion of a front-end engineering design study which was launched last December as part of an early works contract.

Having worked with Sedgman for over 10 years, New Century Director Peter Watson has spoken with confidence about awarding the $40 million EPC contract to Sedgman, stating “The Sedgman team will also complement the existing management team within New Century, together providing a great combination of long-term site knowledge and external expertise,”

Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser has also spoken about this significant contract, stating  “This contract is a valued addition to our mineral processing portfolio. We are pleased to continue working with New Century Resources to deliver Sedgman’s full project cycle service offering, adding value from feasibility study through to operation.”

“The Century Zinc mine is an important part of the Queensland mining industry and we are looking forward to re-starting the mine and using our technical expertise to achieve successful outcomes for our client.”

The contract will see Sedgman deliver civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical work for additions to the facility. They will also provide refurbishment, commissioning works and operations readiness services.

Refurbishment and commissioning of the Century processing plant and Karumba Port is expected to take five months.
