Cool Machines - Bridge Girder Erector

We love the crazy technology that comes out of rapidly growing countries.

China is great for it - they're growing at a breakneck pace, throwing up skyscrapers, bridges, dams, power stations and everything in between faster than anywhere else in the world.

You might have heard of their prefab building modules which allow them to build a whole apartment block in mere days, but we've found something even more impressive.

Introducing the SLJ900/32 - a Bridge Girder Erector that is the pinnacle of machinery technology. It's amazing watching these construction workers look like ants high up on supports while the machine trundles along behind them.

It's even more amazing when the Bridge Girder Erector starts thrusting itself out into midair to reach the next support. Fantastic engineering.

Some rapid stats about the Bridge Girder Erector:

  • 580 ton
  • 300 foot long
  • 24 foot wide
  • Will erect around 730 girders in its lifetime
  • Service life of 4 years
  • 800-950 ton capacity

Constructed by the Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company (what a name!), this behemoth operates from an existing girder. It extends a pair of arms to the next support pillar and latches into places, then raises and shifts the next girder into position.

Sit back, relax, and watch this Cool Machine do its thing.
