Joint-venture partners at the Gruyere gold project in West Australia have signed a five-year, $400 million mining contract with Downer.
South Africa’s Gold Fields and Australia’s Gold Road Resources are the owners of the Gruyere gold project. They have announced that Downer will begin construction of mining infrastructure in the March quarter of 2018, mining activities are then due to begin at the start of the December Quarter. The project will have a peak workforce of 170.
Downer has flagged that they will use a fleet of 225-tonne payload dump trucks, 400-tonne excavators, production blasthole drills and support equipment to move around 31Mt of material a year.
According to the joint-venture Downer was awarded the contract based on several factors including, relevant experience of similar projects, price competitiveness, community engagement and environmental stewardship.
Gruyere JV General Manager of Operations, Steve Price, spoke about the contract, “The award of the mining contract is the result of six months work that involved numerous capable contract mining companies. Downer was selected as the preferred Business Partner for the Project as they led in all facets of the key criteria set for the award of the mining contract. We are looking forward to Downer joining the Gruyere team as a key Business Partner and contributing to the future success of the project.“
