Downer has been awarded a $400 million mining services contract at Western Australia’s Gruyere gold project.
South Africa’s Gold Fields and the ASX-listed Gold Road Resources today announced that Downer had been awarded the mining services contract at their Gruyere gold project. They also announced that the construction of mining infrastructure would begin in March 2018, with mining activities to begin in December 2018.
The companies have stated that Downer was awarded this contract based on experience on similar projects, price competitiveness, safety protocols, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
Downer is expected to use a fleet of 225-tonne payload dump trucks, 400-tonne excavators, production blast hole drills, along with significant amounts of support equipment. Downer expects to move 31Mt of material per year.
Under the contract awarded the Gruyere gold project will have a peak workforce of 170.
