Melbourne's Metro Tunnel is one of Australia's largest ever public transport projects. Major construction works are already underway on this mega $11 billion projects.

The project is being delivered in a series of work packages, which are being overseen by Rail Projects Victoria.
The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end underground rail line which will span from Melbourne's West to the South East. The start of the line will be located at Sunbury and the final stop will be Cranbourne. This line should increase the capacity of Melbourne's train system by 39,000 passengers during peak period.
Specifically, the Metro Tunnel will see the following infrastructure assets constructed;
- Twin nine-kilometre rail tunnels from the Melbourne's west to Melbourne's south-east
- New underground stations at Arden, Parkville, Domain and two new CBD stations.
- A train/tram interchange

- Early Works: Awarded to John Holland
- Tunnels and Stations: Awarded to Cross Yarra Partnership consortium (Lendlease Engineering, John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital)
- Rail Infrastructure: Awarded to a consortium of John Holland, CPB Contractors and AECOM
- Construction Power: Awarded to Beon Energy Solutions
- Rail Systems: Awarded to CPB Contractors and Bombardier Transportation
- Tram Infrastructure Works: Awarded to Yarra Trams
Construction of the Metro Tunnel project is expected to be completed by 2025. It is expected the project will create 7,000 construction jobs.
