BGC Contracting Wins Big With Koolyanobbing Iron Ore Contract.
BGC Contracting has won a $520 million extension to their contract with Cliffs Natural Resources (a US-based iron producer), over five years for the Koolyanobbing Iron Ore project. The existing contract is due to to end next year and will now be extended to 2022.
The project is located 400km north-east of Perth in the Yilgarn Region, and provides fine and lump products to steel markets around the world. BGC has been working with Cliffs at the project since 2004, initially offering its off-road haulage services, and then expanding in 2007 to include mining operations.
BGC is part of BGC Australia Pty Ltd, which is a contracting, manufacturing and construction organisation, and one of the largest privately owned companies in Australia. They are also a prolific user of iSeekplant.com.au when they are looking for plant and equipment suppliers.
Greg Heylen, Chief Executive Officer of BGC Contracting, said the extension recognises the value of the Koolyannobbing team and their ability to meet the production and safety targets at Cliffs during a particularly challenging period for the industry.
Mr Heylen called it a “tough period” as the iron ore price has been falling, and said he believes that by maintaining strong relationships with Cliffs, BGC has contributed to the success at Koolyannobbing while all iron ore miners have faced a difficult market. “…During this time we have continuously and reliably delivered on the contract,” he said.
