As part of the $190 million Western Parkland City Liveability Program, communities in Sydney’s Western suburbs are set to benefit from a $40.2 million dollar investment in phase two of the initiative. The program will include local infrastructure projects, including the construction of a new wave pool, a performance space and sports field.

The Western Parkland City includes the council areas of Liverpool, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Penrith, Hawkesbury, the Blue Mountains and Wollondilly. The eight councils are sharing the package equitably, with funds to be invested into projects that provide public infrastructure, enable and complement new housing supply, support cultural diversity and create connected communities.

The agreement is part of the Western Sydney City Deal - a partnership initiative between the Commonwealth and State governments, alongside eight different Western Sydney local councils, earmarked to generate 200,000 jobs. The key components of the City Deal project are to kickstart the Aerotropolis and Agribusiness precincts and realise the “30-minute city” via the Sydney Metro Greater West.

“This Liveability Program is strengthening our Parkland City’s transformation into one of the most vibrant and liveable places in Australia” said NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayers.

This is the final phase of the Liveability Program, which will have a four-year scope and aims for completion in 2022.

Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor, spoke of the recent bushfires and the sense of urgency in supporting these Western Sydney communities at this time. “These new facilities will attract visitors as well as locals, helping boost bottom lines for businesses and creating new jobs for the people of Western Sydney,” Mr Taylor said.
